asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has for monitoring the sale of land and buildings envisaged by Government Departments, State Agencies and Semi-State Companies; the total amount of money he expects to accrue to the Exchequer from such sales; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The sale of surplus land and building is part of the Government's programme for reducing the level of Exchequer borrowing and stabilising the national debt-GNP ratio. In 1988, I expect such sales to realise over £12 million by way of Exchequer extra receipts. In addition, the capital allocations to certain State agencies for 1988 were reduced by a total of £5½ million to take account of expected receipts from property sales. My Department is already monitoring the disposal of State property with a view to ensuring the best return to the Exchequer.
