Vol. 374 No. 11

Written Answers. - PRSI Payments.

72.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the anomalies that may arise in the application of the redundancy programme for public sector workers because of the different rates of PRSI paid by different groups of workers within the public sector; the measures, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that the package is applied with equal benefit to all workers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

When the voluntary redundancy terms for public servants generally were formulated, the fact that different groups within the public sector have different PRSI entitlements was taken into account. Consequently, the terms now on offer are designed to ensure that the redundancy package confers broadly equal benefits on the various groups concerned and that anomalies such as those referred to by the Deputy are avoided to the maximum extent possible.

Particulars of the redundancy terms are being circulated to Deputies as part of the reply to another question.
