Vol. 374 No. 11

Written Answers. - Staff Numbers.

99.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the numbers of staff in the public service who have, since 1 August 1987 (a) applied for early retirement (b) applied for redeployment and (c) applied for career breaks; the numbers of staff who have been accepted by his Department for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The following is the position for the period in question in respect of officers of my Department: (a) a total of 43 officers have expressed interest in early retirement. Although none have been offered redundancy to date, the position is being kept under review; (b) there have been no applications for redeployment; (c) there have been five applications for career breaks. Two of these have been granted, two have been refused and one is under consideration.

In the case of the two non-commercial State bodies (Bord Fáilte and the Dublin Transport Authority) under my Department's aegis, the position is as follows: (a) the redundancy-early retirement elements of the Government package are the subject of discussions between the bodies and their staff; (b) there have been no applications in either body for redeployment; (c) there has been one application for a career break in Board Fáilte, which was granted, and none in the DTA.
