Vol. 374 No. 11

Written Answers. - Staff Numbers.

116.

asked the Minister for the Environment the numbers of staff in the public service who have, since 1 August 1987 (a) applied for early retirement (b) applied for redeployment and (c) applied for career breaks; the numbers of staff who have been accepted by his Department for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer the Deputy to my replies to Questions Nos. 204 of 14 October and 163 of 3 November in so far as early retirement is concerned. I would also refer him to the decision announced yesterday concerning the extension of the availability of the early retirement terms.

Redeployment is primarily a matter for management. On the question of career breaks the total number of applications received in my Department and the State-sponsored bodies under its aegis since 1 August 1987 is four and sanction has been given in each case. Returns from local authorities in relation to career breaks for the period since 1 August 1987 are not yet available.
