Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Schools.

233.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the construction of an extension to Ballaghadereen vocational school, County Roscommon; its projected date of completion; and current estimated cost.

The bills of quantities for this project, which is estimated to cost £600,000, have been completed.

It is not possible to indicate when my Department will be able to authorise the seeking of tenders or the commencement of construction in this case.

The restriction on the relevant capital allocation in 1988, which the Government considers necessary under its programme for national recovery, precludes expenditure commitments on any building starts, apart from minor and emergency works.

234.

asked the Minister for Education the present position with regard to a new second level school in Castlerea, County Roscommon; the date of construction; the completion date; and the estimated cost of same.

Architectural planning of the proposed community school for Castlerea, County Roscommon is at an advanced stage. The bills of quantities are at present being prepared and when these are completed and approved by my Department the next step would be the invitation of tenders for the work. However, as my Department's capital allocation for 1988 is sufficient to cover only existing contractual commitments and some emergencies, it will not be possible to allow construction to proceed on further new projects. It is, therefore, not possible for me at this stage to indicate the dates for commencement and completion of the Castlerea project. The estimated cost is in excess of £2 million.
