asked the Minister for the Environment the number of inner city housing schemes submitted by Dublin Corporation to his Department for approval during the last 18 months; the dates on which the schemes were submitted; the reason approval has not been granted for any of these schemes; his policy in relation to the continuation of inner city renewal by the local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to new local authority housing for letting.
Dublin Corporation have submitted 17 proposals for inner city housing schemes to my Department for approval in the last 18 months. Details of the schemes involved are set out in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated in the Official Report.
The capital provided in 1987 for the local authority housing construction programme has already been fully allocated and apart from an extension of a contract to provide an additional 12 houses in the Bride Street/Golden Lane scheme currently in progress, it is not possible to issue sanction in 1987 for the schemes referred to by the Deputy. I am not in a position, at this stage, to indicate for next year what funds will be made available to individual housing authorities and consequently what schemes may be approved. The Deputy may be assured, however, that I am anxious to see inner city schemes go ahead, subject to my being satisfied as to the relative urgency of the housing need involved and the necessary funds being available.
