Written Answers - Cervical Smear Testing.

asked the Minister for Health the cervical smear testing schemes which are in operation in all of the health board areas.

Cervical screening is available to women through general practitioners, clinics run by health boards, maternity hospitals and family planning clinics. Cervical smears taken for diagnostic or screening purposes are examined at the following hospitals throughout the country:

Eastern Health Board: St. Luke's Hospital, Dublin; St. James's Hospital, Dublin; Coombe Lying In Hospital, Dublin; James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Dublin; Jervis Street Hospital*; Mater Misericordiae Hospital; National Maternity Hospital, Dublin; Rotunda Hospital, Dublin; St. Laurence's Hospital, Dublin*; St. Michael's Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin; St. Vincent's Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin.

Mid-Western Health Board Area: Barrington's Hospital.

North-Eastern Health Board Area: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

North-Western Health Board: Sligo General Hospital.

South-Eastern Health Board: Waterford Maternity Hospital.

Southern Health Board: Mercy Hospital, Cork; Regional Hospital, Cork.

Western Health Board: Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway; Regional Hospital, Galway.

*The services at St. Laurence's and Jervis Street Hospitals will transfer to Beaumont Hospital. Services for the Midland Health Board area are provided at St. Luke's Hospital, Dublin and at other centres.
