asked the Minister for the Environment in respect of each local authority (a) the last year in respect of which their accounts have been audited to the satisfaction of the Local Government Auditor, (b) if any audits have been suspended because of unsatisfactory accounts and, if so, the details of same and (c) if any recommendations in relation to the accounts of any local authority are before him at present and, if so, the details of same.

The table below lists the last year for which audited accounts are available in respect of each local authority. The only audit of local authority accounts suspended at the present time is that of Kilkenny County Council's accounts for the three year period ended 31 December, 1986, pending the final reconciliation of the water charges account. The audit has been completed in all other respects.
While there are no recommendations in relation to the accounts of any local authority before me at present, an interdepartmental committee is currently examining the local government audit service and I will consider any recommendations in this matter which may be contained in its report in due course.
