Vol. 376 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin School.

139.

asked the Minister for Education her views on whether a school (details supplied) in Dublin 7 caters for children from a most disadvantaged social background; her further views on whether the recent loss of a teacher on 1 December 1987 is a serious blow to the school; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that parents and management are gravely concerned at the loss of the teacher; if she will urgently replace the teacher; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The school in question has been allocated an ex-quota post under my Department's special scheme for schools serving disadvantaged areas. Due to declining enrolments, one teacher in this school became redundant on 1 July 1987. The enrolment at present is not sufficient to allow a replacement. The existing staff of five class teachers gives an average of 26 pupils per class. The school also has a remedial teacher.
