The pension schemes applicable to the great majority of public servants are funded on a "pay-as-you-go" basis from current State revenue. I have no plans for changing this arrangements. The voluntary redundancy early retirement schemes for the public service will naturally lead to an increase in pension costs. However, this increase will be more than offset by savings in pay arising from the reduction in staff numbers.
