Vol. 376 No. 6

Written Answers. - IPA Allocation.

52.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the impact on the work done by the IPA, of 11 per cent cut in real terms in its financial allocation for 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Institute of Public Administration is a private company whose activities are funded in part by a grant-in-aid from the Exchequer. The 1988 grant-in-aid of £1,138,000 represents 37 per cent of the institute's budgeted income for the year. The remaining 63 per cent is generated from subscriptions and fees for services. The reduction of £100,000 in the allocation for 1988 is necessary as part of the Government's policy of curbing expenditure for budgetary reasons. The institute has been notified of its allocation. Since it is a private independent institution, all operational decisions are a matter for its own management.
