Vol. 376 No. 9

Written Answers. - Petrol Pump Licences.

217.

asked the Minister for Labour if he intends to grant exemptions for privately-owned petrol pump retailers with regard to pumps which are situated on the sides of streets and roads, allowing them to continue on in their established business; and if he will grant them an exemption for this purpose under the Dangerous Substances Act, 1972.

Due to the safety issues involved I do not intend to grant any general exemptions under the Dangerous Substances Act, 1972, for retail petrol pumps which are situated on the sides of streets and roads. However, there are provisions in the licensing arrangements under the Dangerous Substances (Retail and Private Petroleum Stores) Regulations 1979 which allow a certain degree of flexibility to the licensing authorities.
