Vol. 376 No. 9

Written Answers. - Air Corps Helicopters.

251.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of helicopters in the possession of the Air Corps at present, including those which have a facility to fly at night; if he will indicate the number of times in the last two years they have been used at night; and if he will outline specifically whether their use has been for military, civilian or rescue services or otherwise.

Limerick West): At present the Air Corps operates eight Alouette, two Gazelle and five Dauphin helicopters.

The Dauphin aircraft are equipped for night flying. Because of the demanding requirements of night flying, night operations have not yet been undertaken. However, intensive training for such operations is continuing and is expected to be completed in 1988.
