Vol. 376 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Kildare Organisations Funding.

53.

asked the Minister for Finance if any moneys from the national lottery have been allocated to organisations from County Kildare; if it is intended to allocate funds under this heading within the county; if there are suitable applications for such funding before Government Departments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I can assure the Deputy that it is the Government's intention that national lottery funds should be spent to benefit worth-while projects in every area of the country. The proceeds of the lottery are used to support projects in the sports and recreation, youth, arts and culture, Irish language and health sectors. Once the broad allocation of funds to these sectors has been determined by the Government decisions as to which projects should receive assistance are taken by the spending Ministers concerned to whom questions on the geographic distribution of applications and approvals should be addressed. This information is not available in my Department.
