Earlier this year I received a request from a member of the board of the South Eastern Airport Company for Exchequer funds to lengthen the runway and to provide other facilities at Waterford Airport. I did not find it possible to accede to the request. Since 1980, Exchequer funds amounting to £930,000 have been provided towards the development of Waterford Airport, representing a generous level of assistance especially in difficult budgetary circumstances. I regret that it is not possible to provide further capital grants for the airport.
