A claim under the farm improvement programme for payment of a grant of £1,891 has been received and will be paid as soon as practicable. All claims under the programme are dealt with strictly in order of receipt. Due to existing budgetary constraints there is some delay in making grant payments.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for a reduction in a farm modernisation grant in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when payment will be made.
Under the farm modernisation scheme preferential rates of grant were available to farmers who undertook to carry out a farm development plan over a period of up to six years (eight years in disadvantaged areas). The person in question joined the scheme as a development farmer in 1980 and his period in that category expired in December 1986. He was given outline approval to construct a cubicle house and concrete yard in April 1982 and definitive approval for the same works was issued in April 1983. However, the works were not completed when he ceased to have any entitlement to the preferential rate of grant on the expiry of his development plan in December 1986. Notification of completion of the work was received in July 1987. A grant of £1,082, calculated at the standard rate has been certified and will be paid as soon as practicable.
