asked the Minister for the Environment when a £5,000 local authority house surrender grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

Confirmation that the applicant has complied with the conditions of the scheme has been received from the local authority and the grant will be paid as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the fact that grant approval was issued in January last, and that the application proceeded on that basis, whether he would not arrange to have the appropriate house improvement grant paid to the applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin.

Under the terms of the scheme a house improvement grant cannot be paid within ten years of the payment of a new house grant in respect of the particular house. In this case the applicant failed to disclose on his application the names of previous owners of the house. It subsequently came to light that a new house grant had been paid to the previous owners in respect of the house in 1978. Accordingly, a house improvement grant cannot be paid and the applicant has been so informed.
