Vol. 376 No. 11

Written Answers. - Auxiliary Dental Workers.

93.

asked the Minister for Health the Government's views on whether there should be a class of auxiliary dental workers established by the Dental Council who would have the necessary qualifications and training to make its members competent to supply dentures to persons over eighteen years of age while not carrying out work on living tissue.

Under the Dentists Act, 1985, the Dental Council can, with my consent, make schemes for the establishment and registration of classes of auxiliary dental workers. For some time past the Auxiliary Dental Workers Committee of the Dental Council has been considering the need for different classes of auxiliary dental workers and as soon as the council's proposals have been finalised I will have them fully considered in my Department.
