asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any special trading houses have so far been established in the light of committments given thereto in the Programme for National Recovery; and if not, the reason.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 174 and 175 together.
Details of the proposals for special trading houses were first sent to the European Commission for approval on 22 May 1987. Since then there have been various discussions with the Commission in support of the proposals.
Pending receipt of the Commission's decision no licences have been issued for the establishment of special trading houses.
