asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline for each local authority the following information: (a) the number of itinerant halting sites which have been established and were in operation at 31 December 1987 (b) the number of halting sites which will be provided in 1988 (c) the location of such new halting sites (d) the name and location of existing halting sites (e) the number of stands that will be provided for travellers and their families on each site and (f) the average cost per halting site/stand for those halting sites which are proposed for construction in 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Itinerant Halting Sites.
Up to 31 December 1987 32 serviced sites for travelling families had been provided, with assistance from my Department, by local authorities throughout the country. Details of these sites are set out in Table A which follows. In addition, there are seven sites under construction and a further 30 at planning stage, details of which are set out in Table B.
I am not in a position, at this stage, to say which of the proposals at planning stage will mature sufficiently to have construction commenced or completed in 1988.
