Vol. 377 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Voluntary Redundancy.

12.

asked the Minister for Defence if it is his intention to offer the terms of the voluntary redundancy or early retirement schemes to any personnel either in his Department or to any Army, Navy or Air Corps personnel under his control; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

(Limerick West): The terms of the voluntary early retirement scheme have been offered to all civil servants aged 50 or over in my Department. The question of offering the terms to civilians employed by the Department with units of the Permanent Defence Force is being considered. Members of that force are excluded from the scheme. There are, however, arrangements already in existence under which members may qualify for pensions and gratuities on leaving the force before the normal retiring ages.
