asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to allocate the required funding to Kildare County Council in order that that body would undertake the completion of road improvements/realignments on the N4 at Laraghbrien, Maynooth, County Kildare; if he expects the work will be completed in the current year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

98.
Improvements to the national primary road at Laraghbrien are being carried out in two phases. Phase I has been completed at a cost of £804,000. A revised design for the second phase, costing an estimated £500,000, has been approved by the Department.
The provisions available for road grants during 1988 have been fully allocated. It was not possible to allocate a grant this year for the second phase because of competing demands for other important road improvement schemes. The question of a grant for the second phase will be reconsidered when the road grant allocations for 1989 are being determined.
