Vol. 377 No. 8

Written Answers. - Kilkenny Old Persons' Facilities.

105.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that £220,000 has been raised by the committee for care of the elderly at Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, for the provision of old persons' homes; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that a contractor has been employed to carry out the building; when he will make the funds from his Department available to the committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received an application on behalf of the Graiguenamanagh Elderly Association for a grant from national lottery funds towards the cost of building a welfare home and day care facilities. I have been informed by the South-Eastern Health Board that the association has raised £120,000 for the project, which also includes sheltered housing accommodation and that the local authority allocated a non-repayable loan of £143,000 in respect of the proposed sheltered housing, under the scheme to assist voluntary bodies to provide housing accommodation for elderly and other disadvantaged persons. This project will be considered together with other projects for funding in 1988.
