Vol. 377 No. 9

Written Answers. - Limerick-Tralee Road Improvements.

160.

asked the Minister for the Environment the cost of bringing the N20:N21 between Limerick and Tralee up to desired standards; and in particular, if steps will be taken to remove the bridges which are particularly hazardous.

The timing of construction of a number of major schemes for the improvement of the N20 and N21 routes between Tralee and Limerick, at an estimated cost of £29 million, is being considered in my Department in the context of the preparation of a blueprint for long term road development. The schemes are:

Kerry — Tralee-Ballycarthy; Feale Bridge and approaches.

Limerick — Croagh-Patrickswell; Patrickswell-Limerick; Rathkeale bypass.

The preparation of proposals for the improvement-replacement of bridges on these routes is primarily a matter for the local authorities concerned. I understand that the authorities are considering schemes for the improvement of a number of bridges on the routes, including Headley's Bridge in County Kerry and two bridges in the Barna Gap area of County Limerick. These proposals will be considered when the details are received in the Department. Bridges north of Barna Gap will be by-passed by the foregoing Limerick schemes.
