Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools-Industry Link Scheme.

108.

asked the Minister for Education if she will liaise with the Department of Labour to ensure that funds are found to continue with the schools-industry link scheme based at Coláiste Eoin, Cappagh Road, Finglas, Dublin 11 which has been so successful.

The schools industry link scheme based at Coláiste Eoin, Finglas, was funded by the Department of Labour through the Youth Employment Agency which provided approximately £12,000 for the scheme for each year from 1983 to 1986. When this funding was discontinued at the end of 1986, because in the view of the labour agencies it was primarily a school based intervention, my Department, as an exceptional matter, made an allocation of £10,000 to the scheme.

No specific provision has been made for this scheme in the funds available to my Department in 1988. I have, however, asked my Department to give every consideration to any case made by SILS for funding in the event of additional funds, for this type of activity becoming available as part of European Community initiatives.
