I assume the question relates to recruitment to the Force at a rank higher than that of Garda. I am not at present considering any proposals of this nature.
Graduates can, of course, join the Garda Síochána under the normal recruitment procedures and certain pay and promotion conditions are available to them as an incentive to do this. Members of the Garda Síochána who are graduates on joining the Force can qualify for additional increments on the Garda pay scale on completion of the 2 year probationary period. They are also eligible to sit the examination for promotion to Sergeant on completion of their probationary period, rather than on completion of the usual three years of service.
