There have been two meetings of European Community Education Ministers since I took office, both of which I attended.
The first meeting was the formal Council of Education Ministers held in Brussels on 14 May 1987. The important decision taken at this meeeting was the adoption of the Erasmus programme and the action arising for my Department was the nomination of two persons to serve on the Erasmus Advisory Committee.
The second meeeting was held on 6 and 7 October in Copenhagen. Since this was an informal meeting, no decisions could be taken. However, very interesting and constructive discussions on various educational topics took place and I expect some of these discussions will lead to decisions being taken at the next formal meeting of EC Education Ministers.
