Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Jobsearch Programme.

58.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of people who were refused unemployment benefit because of their failure to attend Jobsearch interviews.

62.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of people refused unemployment assistance because of their failure to attend Jobsearch interviews.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 62 together.

Statistics are not kept in such a manner as would enable a breakdown to be given between unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance of those who declined invitations to attend interviews under the Jobsearch programme and who subsequently had their claims disallowed.

I can, however, inform the Deputies that between unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance a total of 2,136 claims were disallowed up to 12 February 1988, the latest date for which figures are available.
