Vol. 378 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchase Scheme.

24.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce amendments to the tenant purchase scheme to allow persons who have paid purchase payments under the scheme over a substantial period, and who wish to pay the remaining capital sum due and become outright owners of the house, to do so at any time within a priod which is 15 years or less from the end of the agreed programme of purchase payments.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the procedures governing the redemption of annuities on vested cottages as provided for by section 99 of the Housing Act, 1966. That section provides for the redemption of such annuities at any time if the relevant local authority see fit. I see no need to amend the relevant procedures in this regard.
