Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rutland Treatment Centre Funding.

57.

asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the present and proposed funding for the Rutland Treatment Centre, Dublin 16 indicating whether medical card holders will continue to be entitled to be treated at this centre, in the light of financial cut-backs.

This centre is funded partly by charges and partly by contributions from health boards, mainly the Eastern Health Board which in 1987 made payments amounting to £108,000. In return the centre offered treatment to persons covered by medical cards.

Late last year the centre was engaged in discussions with an overseas organisation which had financial implications. Pending the outcome of these discussions the Eastern Health Board took no decision in relation to funding in 1988. Now that the discussions appear to have ended the board will discuss the matter of funding with the centre and also the centre's role in relation to the board's overall plan for the greater Dublin area.
