Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Area Steering Committee.

71.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the composition of the steering committee for the Dublin area, announced by the Taoiseach in the context of EC structural funds at the CII annual conference on 26 February 1988; if he will give details of the terms of reference of the steering committee including their operating timetable; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government has decided to commission a study under Article 24 of the European Regional Development Fund Regulations preparatory to the formulation of a programme for the Dublin area under the ERDF. This programme will also make provision for support from the European Social Fund and, if appropriate, the FEOGA Guidance Fund.

The steering committee for the study and subsequent programme for the Dublin area comprises representatives of the following:

(1) Departments of Finance, Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Labour, Industry and Commerce, Tourism and Transport accompanied as appropriate by representatives of the relevant State-sponsored bodies.

(2) Dublin City and County Managers.

(3) Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

(4) The Commission of the European Communities.

The Steering Committee has the tasks of agreeing the terms of reference for the study and of over-seeing the preparation and implementation of the programme. It is envisaged that the study will be completed by end-1988 and that the Government will submit a programme for Dublin to the Commission for funding under the European Regional Development Fund early in 1989.
