, Limerick West): Twelve vacancies which would previously have been filled by promotions have arisen in my Department since 31 March, 1987. Some of them will be filled, either through redeployment from within the public sector or through promotion.

The number of promotion posts left vacant in my Department since 27 March 1987 is 17. This figure does not include posts of executive or clerical officer where appointments may normally be by recruitment or promotion. Discussions are proceeding with the Department of Finance in regard to the possibility of filling some of the vacancies.
