asked the Minister for Justice the role performed by the Charity Commissioners; their names; the person(s) by whom they are appointed; and the functions they have in regard to voluntary hospitals.

The Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests for Ireland are the statutory authority responsible for the general administration of charitable trusts. Their statutory functions are set out in the Charities Act, 1961, as amended by the Charities Act, 1973.

The present commissioners are: The Hon. Mr. A. Denis Pringle, (Chairman); The Hon. Mr. Justice McMahon; Mr. Oliver D. Gogarty, SC.; Peter Donald Maziere Prentice, Esq.; Right Rev. Monsignor James Ardle MacMahon, PP, DCL; Mr. C. Garrett Walker, FCA; John Garvey, Esq; Colm Gaynor, Esq.; Rev. Canon Charles Trevelyan Aubrey Carter, MA; The Hon. Miss Justice Mella Carroll; The Hon. Mr. Justice Francis D. Murphy.

The commissioners are appointed by the Government from time to time in accordance with section 8 of the Charities Act, 1961.

The commissioners have no special functions regarding voluntary hospitals.
