Vol. 379 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cherry Orchard Estate, Ballyfermot.

64.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is in a position to indicate capital allocations to Dublin Corporation for this year under the remedial works scheme; the amount which is being made available for the commencement of the proposed refurbishment of the Cherry Orchard Estate, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10; the likely completion date for the refurbishment of the estate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An allocation of £2.3 million has been made to Dublin Corporation in 1988 for works under the remedial works scheme. This includes provision for the carrying out of work at this estate, for which approval to the seeking of tenders has been given. It is a matter for the corporation to apportion the allocation between their approved priority projects. As I indicated in my reply to Questions Nos. 68 and 70 of 24 February 1988, the planning and execution of improvement works under the scheme is the responsibility of the housing authority. The time-scale for the completion of work on the estate is also dependent on the capital provided in the Public Capital Programme and the demands by authorities for assistance under the scheme.
