Vol. 379 No. 8

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Town Centre.

66.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that work on the proposed Blanchardstown town centre, Dublin 15, has been postponed due to the failure to make it a designated site, as Tallaght town centre, Dublin 24, has been designated; if his attention has further been drawn to the major need for the proposed shopping and recreation facilities in the area and to the jobs which they would create; if, in view of the fact that the project could commence speedily, he will now grant it designated status; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that planning permission for a town centre development at Blanchardstown was granted in 1986 by An Bord Pleanála and that an application for a similar development on a larger scale is at present under consideration by An Bord Pleanála. The carrying out of any development on foot of a planning permission is a matter for the developer concerned. The Government's programme on urban renewal contains nothing to prevent the carrying out of such development. I have no proposals to designate an area in Blanchardstown for urban renewal purposes.
