Vol. 380 No. 1

Written Answers. - Afforestation Research.

86.

asked the Minister for Energy in view of the fact that much money is being spent on afforestation, if he intends to publish a researched book — journal — paper on our quality control methods, the techniques of planting in Ireland and technical descriptive drawings of roots — plants needs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All aspects of afforestation work in the Forest Service are constantly monitored to ensure satisfactory quality. Specifications for the various planting and forest management jobs have been drawn up and are updated as required. They have not been formally published but are made available to interested persons. In addition, the Forest Service gives free technical advice on all matters relating to planting and management of plantations, as required.

My Department has published a leaflet dealing with environmental considerations of tree planting, namely, advisory leaflet No. 2 — Commercial Forestry and The Rural Landscape — a copy of which has been sent to the Deputy.
