Vol. 380 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

33.

asked the Minister for the Environment when his Department will approve grants for Williamstown sewerage scheme, County Galway.

Approval issued to the preliminary report and the preparation of contract documents for this scheme in March 1987. It is therefore a matter for Galway County Council to have the necessary contract documents prepared and submitted to my Department. The allocation of a grant does not arise at this stage.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a house improvement grant was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare at the approved rate of £6,900 which was in accordance with the estimates submitted to his Department.

A grant for house improvements cannot in any case exceed two-thirds of the approved costs as estimated by the Department's inspector, or of the actual cost of carrying out the work, whichever is the lesser. The actual costs of the works eligible for grant purposes carried out in this case, as notified by the applicant, were less than the approved costs and the amount of the overall grant paid was adjusted accordingly to take account of this.
