In my Department's letters of allocation for 1988 to the health boards and voluntary hospitals, the agencies were advised to ensure the maximisation of income from charges including charges on patients in private and semi-private accommodation. I am satisfied that the agencies have adopted a vigorous approach towards the collection of the charges due.
