Vol. 380 No. 2

Written Answers. - Inchicore, Dublin, Youth Club.

109.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that St. Joseph's Youth Club, Inchicore, Dublin 8 had been approved for a £60,000 grant in each of the last two years but that due to circumstances beyond their control were unable to take up the grant in either year; that the old club premises have been closed for the past two and a half years on foot of an order of the Fire Officer in the aftermath of the Stardust disaster; that the club which has been in existence since 1944 is finding it hard to continue without a premises; that a site which has been donated for the purposes of a new clubhouse, has been cleared; that planning permission has been granted; that because of the lapse of time the club's needs will now be in the order of £100,000, in order to bring the project to a successful conclusion; if she will approve a grant of that amount; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department received an application from St. Joseph's Youth Club, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Inchicore, Dublin 8, on 10 March 1988, under the capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities. There is no record of an application from the club prior to this date and no previous allocations have been made.

On the basis of the application received, a grant of £20,000 has been provisionally allocated to the project. The sport and youth section of my Department will shortly be in contact with the organisers regarding the conditions of the grant allocation. No work should be undertaken or commitments entered into until the availability of the grant has been formally confirmed by my Department.
