I move:
That an Interim report from the Committee of Public Accounts be laid before the Dáil and that the report, minutes of evidence and appendix be printed.
This interim report arises because of the failure of the ESB to meet their obligations under section 7 of the Electricity Supply (Amendment) Act, 1982. While the committee see no objection to the sum involved being provided by excess Vote, they regard it as unsatisfactory that this course of action should now be necessary simply because the authority of the Government was effectively called into question by a State body. The Committee have asked accounting officers in the Department of the Environment to communicate their dissatisfaction to the ESB.
