Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Kildare Secondary School.

77.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the provision of extra accommodation and facilities at Meánscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare; that this school has to refuse to accept pupils because of limited accommodation; her views on whether the provision of the extra facilities can be undertaken in the current year; the date by which she expects to be able to provide the facilities; the full extent of the facilities required; the cost of same; if her Department has already made a commitment in regard to the provision of these extra facilities; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the needs of Meánscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare. My Department has approved the provision of an extension to the school at an estimated cost of £740,000. Architectural planning has reached the outline sketch scheme stage. Schedule of proposed accommodation for the extension is as follows: 2 general classrooms; 1 science laboratory & prep-resource area; 1 Woodwork-Building Construction room; 1 Social Studies room; 1 Mechanical Drawing Room; PE Hall and ancillary; and toilets-cloaks-lockers.

I am not in a position at this stage to indicate when the extra facilities may be provided, as the rate at which this project as with other capital projects of this nature can proceed is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.
