Vol. 380 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork High Court Actions.

69.

asked the Minister for Justice the average delay between setting down and trial of High Court actions in Cork; and the steps he proposes to reduce the backlog of cases awaiting trial.

I am informed that there is an interval of 32 months between the date of setting down and the date of trial of High Court Jury actions in Cork. However, that delay is not due entirely to a shortage of judicial resources. I am informed that the parties themselves and their legal advisers are responsible for much of the delay. In so far as judicial resources are concerned, the President of the High Court has arranged additional sittings in order to reduce the backlog of cases awaiting hearing.
