Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - Information on Missing Irish National.

26.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if in the light of the release of three French hostages in Beirut, any additional information has come to hand regarding the well-being and whereabouts of Brian Keenan.

Following the release of the three French hostages our Embassy in Paris has been in contact with the French authorities to establish if there might be any further information in relation to Mr. Keenan. Our Ambassador to France discussed the matter with the French Foreign Minister on the morning after the release of the three hostages and Embassy staff have been in contact with relatives of the men. We have also had direct contact to one of the hostages. I regret that to date we have obtained no new information on Mr. Keenan's well-being or whereabouts.

I can assure the Deputy that we are maintaining contact with the French authorities in the matter and shall do everything possible to obtain all information that might be relevant or helpful in this case.
