As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 47 on 23 March 1988, the Revenue Commissioners' decision to retain the goods as a seizure superseded information earlier conveyed erroneously to a person in the Deputy's office. When the matter came to be decided at senior level in the Commissioners' Office it was found that the earlier information furnished to the Deputy was erroneous because the goods in question were not eligible to be imported duty-free under the travellers' baggage allowances and were not declared to customs on importation.
