asked the Minister for Social Welfare when disability benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry in view of the nature of his illness; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 18 February 1987. He was entitled to the award of credited contributions only from 19 February 1987 as he did not have the required minimum of 26 contributions paid or credited in the 1985-86 governing contribution year.

The award of credited contributions was disallowed from 2 October 1987 following an examination by a medical referee who considered him to be capable of work. He appealed against this decision and was examined by a different medical referee on 28 April 1988 who also expressed the opinion that he was capable of work.

He was informed of the result of this examination and was supplied with a form on which to set out the grounds for appeal if he wished to have his case referred to an appeals officer for determination. His case will be reviewed on receipt of this form.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be placed on an invalidity pension further to his recent visit to the medical referee.

The person concerned was examined by a medical referee on 14 April 1988. As he now appears to satisfy the medical and contribution conditions for invalidity pension, a form on which to formally claim the pension has been forwarded to him.
