Vol. 382 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anglo-Irish Summit Meeting Plans.

4.

asked the Taoiseach if any plans are being made for a full Anglo-Irish Summit meeting with the British Prime Minister before the scheduled review of the Anglo-Irish Agreement in November.

Plans for any such meeting would, in accordance with normal practice, be announced simultaneously in Dublin and London close to the time of the meeting.

Do I understand from the Taoiseach's reply that a meeting at Heads of Government level is being planned for this year?

The Deputy should not take that assumption from my reply. What I am saying is that if such a meeting were to take place the normal procedure would be followed which is an announcement shortly before it would take place.

Would the Taoiseach think it desirable that such a meeting at Heads of Government level should take place before the scheduled review of the agreement in November?

I do not want to speculate too far ahead but the Deputy will be aware that I will be meeting the British Prime Minister in Hanover.
