Vol. 382 No. 5

Written Answers. - Misuse of Irish Passports.

47.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department have concluded their investigations into the use of Irish passports by persons involved in the Irangate affair; if any person has been made answerable for the illegal disposal of these passports from his Department or elsewhere; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the answers already given to questions on this subject on 27 November 1986 and 24 March, 16 June, 25 June and 4 November 1987. Since the last mentioned answer the report of US Congressional investigations has been published but this did not provide any new information on the alleged misuse of Irish passports. Legal proceedings have been instituted against some of those allegedly involved in the affair. Our embassy at Washington is monitoring these proceedings in case they have a bearing on the issue.
