Vol. 382 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Service Redundancy Scheme.

34.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance the number of public servants who have retired under the early retirement-redundancy package for public servants; the savings in each Department for 1988 as a result of these retirements; and the projected savings for 1989.

The information requested by the Deputy in respect of numbers of staff who have availed of the scheme since its introduction in July 1987, and the projected full-year savings associated with those departures is given in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to circulate.

It has not been possible in the time available to assemble the information required to answer the second part of the Deputy's question on the consequential savings in 1988. An essential element in this calculation would be the timing of the over 4,000 individual departures in 1988 to date. That information is not available in my Department.
