Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - Apprentice Training Courses.

220.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the proposals to discontinue the courses for electricians and fitters in the regional college, Dundalk, County Louth; to the fact that this is the only college in the north-east of the country which provides such courses; and if she will make a statement on the matter as it is a cause of great public concern.

I am aware that a proposed rationalisation of apprentice training in the Regional Technical Colleges is being considered in my Department at present. These proposals involve all of the Regional Technical Colleges running courses in apprentice education and until such time as I have had the matter fully examined it would be inappropriate for me to comment on what the likely outcome will be in any one college.
