Vol. 382 No. 10

Report of Committee of Public Accounts: Motion.

I move:

"That the Report of the Committee of Public Accounts on a Review of the Procedures followed by the Office of Public Works in the Management and Control of its Capital Projects be laid before the House and that the Report be printed."

Question put and agreed to.

Dr. FitzGerald

Does the Taoiseach intend to make a statement on the case reported in this morning's newspaper which appeared to suggest that a district justice took action in contravention of the Intoxicating Liquor Act and suggested that other district justices should do likewise to abort the effect of that Act in regard to the requirement for a meal to be served——

I am not certain tha this matter arises now.

Dr. FitzGerald

It seems to be a matter of urgency. The House has just passed the law and it should be enforced. If there is a suggestion by a member of the Judiciary that he does not intend to enforce it, the House should be concerned.

The Deputy will have to find another way of raising that matter.

Dr. FitzGerald

The Taoiseach should make a statement about the matter. If not, I wish to raise it on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

Will the Minister for Industry and Commerce give an assurance to the House that he is taking all posible steps to ensure that Clondalkin Paper Mills is purchased as a viable, going concern because there is a great danger at the moment that the receiver intends to have it broken up?

Obviously, that matter does not arise now.

There will be no other opportunity to raise it and there is great concern among the workers.

The Deputy will surely find another way of raising that matter.

I should like yet again to seek permission to raise on the Adjournment the question of change to a one-teacher school of Knock school, Lettermullen, in south Connemara Gaeltacht.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the pre-empting of Dáil decisions by the chairman of Bord Telecom Éireann in his statement this morning——

Please, Deputy Stagg.

I wish to raise that matter on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the failure and refusal of the Minister for the Environment to meet the national executive of the National Association of Tenants' Organisations and his disgraceful response to their correspondence.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the serious crisis which is now becoming apparent in the tourist industry.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
